Cancellation Policy:

🌴 Playa Sonrisa Flexible Credit & Cancellation Policy

Designed to offer flexibility while protecting our small, boutique beachfront resort

Playa Sonrisa is an intimate, off-the-grid resort with a limited number of rooms. When a reservation cancels, it significantly impacts our small team and operations.

To balance flexibility with sustainability, we operate on a Flexible Credit Policy rather than cash refunds — giving you time to reschedule your escape.

 

💛 No Cash Refunds

All payments made to Playa Sonrisa are non-refundable in cash value.

If your plans change, we provide resort credit only, based on the timeline below.

 

📅 Cancellation Credit Schedule

120+ days before arrival
✨ 100% credit of payments made (minus $25 processing fee)

90–119 days before arrival
✨ Credit minus 1 night

30–89 days before arrival
✨ Credit minus 3 nights

29 days or less before arrival
No credit is available, and all payments made are forfeited.

 

🏝 Credit Terms

To keep this policy fair and sustainable:

  • Credits are valid for 24 months from the original arrival date

  • Credits have no cash value

  • Credits may be used for stays between May 1 – January 31

  • A minimum 3-night stay is required when rebooking

  • A new 3-night deposit is required to secure the new reservation

  • Your credit will be applied to the remaining balance after the new 3-night deposit is received

  • Rebooking is subject to availability and current rates

  • No refunds or credits for early departures or no-shows

Example:

If you rebook a 5-night stay, you will place a new 3-night deposit to confirm the reservation.
Your existing credit will then be applied toward the remaining balance due.

 

🌪 Force Majeure Policy

In the event of a verified Force Majeure situation, guests will receive 100% resort credit for payments made.
No cash refunds will be issued.

Force Majeure applies only to major, system-wide travel disruptions that legally or physically prevent travel to Playa Sonrisa, such as:

  • Government-mandated travel bans

  • Official evacuation orders

  • Widespread airport closures

  • Major tropical storms or hurricanes directly impacting travel

  • Global pandemics with active travel restrictions

Force Majeure does not include:

  • Personal concerns or changes of mind

  • General travel advisories

  • Media reports or news cycles

  • Perceived safety concerns without official travel restrictions

  • Personal illness (unless accompanied by government travel bans)

  • Flight delays or airline schedule changes

  • Work conflicts

  • Routine weather events

  • Late arrivals

In approved Force Majeure cases, reservations convert to 100% resort credit valid for 24 months, subject to the standard credit terms outlined above.

 

✈ Travel Insurance Strongly Recommended

 

Because we are unable to offer cash refunds, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to protect your investment.
